ARBEA - Fernando, of Comox passed away Tuesday, June 16th at St. Joseph's Hospital following a brave battle with cancer and diabetes. He was 75 years young.

Born in Oronz, Spain, Fernando immigrated to the USA when he was 19. In 1961 he married Unita and together they immigrated to Canada in 1963. Fernando's many occupations included cowboy and master welder. He was an avid recycler, excellent carver and craftsman. He was gifted with a beautiful singing voice. He was a longtime member of the IWA and although a quiet man was known to be decent, honest and hardworking.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Unita, daughter Kari (Burton) Hackett, granddaughter Sandi (Wayne) Ross, great-grandsons Bailey and Owen Ross, family in Spain: sister Maria Santos, sister-in-law Rosa, brother Jesus, and several nieces and nephews. Special gratitude to niece Luisa in Spain and brother and sister-in-law Sally and Jake Volkers of Courtenay and to good friends Bill and Cal.

Thank you to Dr. M. Chow, Home Support and Palliative Care staff, St. Joseph's Hospital Emergency Room staff, St. Joseph's Chaplain Gordon and especially Brian and the first responders and paramedics that were so caring.
