BERRY

Frances (Fran) Elizabeth Laura

1921 - 2008

Resident of the Comox Valley from 1956 to 2002, Fran was born in Salmon Arm in 1921 and died peacefully in the loving presence of her family, at her home in Victoria on August 29, 2008, following a short illness.

Fran was a Public Health nurse in her professional life, first in Cloverdale and then in the Comox Valley. Well known and admired in that role, she enjoyed home visits to new babies, the elderly and others needing a wide range of care. She served different areas in the Valley -- notably Tsolumn, Cumberland and Denman and her beloved Hornby Island. She was a staunch proponent and teacher of post-natal classes and a pioneer in developing peri-natal approaches to Public Health.

She lived on the Back Road with her husband Tom and family, on a dairy farm where she also played an active role.

Fran was a much loved presence in her family and her community. She was active in her Church, social organizations such as the Comox Valley Homemakers, which she was instrumental in establishing, and even served as a 4-H leader.

She is survived by husband Tom in Victoria, son John (Pat) in Burnaby, daughter Liz (Gorden) Kifiak in Victoria and grandchildren Mark and Kevin Berry and Brian and Sarah Kifiak. Predeceased by her parents J.D. and E. Frances Hobden.

Celebration of life 2 PM September 20 at Cordova Bay United Church, 830 Claremont Avenue, Victoria. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to charity appreciated, especially Covenant House (Vancouver) and Our Place (Victoria).
