Fred

Feb 10, 1916 - Dec 25, 2006

With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Fred Wesch. Born in Prince Rupert February 10, 1916 he was predeceased by Hazel, his wife for 60 years, his eldest daughter Judy and his sister Rose. Survived by his son Ron and daughter Janice (Michael) Marshall, brothers: Dick and John, grandsons: Douglas, Geoffrey (Kerry) Murdoch, Adam (Sheena) and Jordan Marshall, Steven and Ian Wesch, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Fred became a mechanic before going overseas with the army in World War II. Returning to Prince Rupert, he met and married Hazel in 1946. Fred earned his Engineer papers and began his lifelong career as a Laundry Manager in Ocean Falls before moving to Vancouver where he worked at both St. Paul’s and Burnaby General Hospitals. In 1967, he moved his family to Comox to become the first Laundry and Linen Manager for St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Retiring in 1980, Fred continued his avid interest in gardening, fishing and carpentry (he built his own boats and house trailers). An accomplished brewmaster, he was also a long-time member of the Canadian Legion and local Power Squadron for which he volunteered for many years. A great provider and sharp of mind to the end, Fred will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 6th at Comox Funeral Home on Ryan Road at 1:00pm. The family would like to thank the Emergency Room staff of Comox, the 3 South staff at Campbell River Hospital and the staff of Stevenson Place in Comox for their assistance and care.
