Gary Stuart Clarke

November 4, 1933 -

June 5, 2008

Gary passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his

loving family. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 58 years Gerry. Children Lynda (Mahmoud), Patti (Brian), and Steve (Kim). Grandchildren, Michael, Firas, Christopher, Jennifer, and Sumayya. Baby brother Ken (Dee), and his many, many friends. Gary started his career as a railway logger in Woss Camp when he was 17 years old. He then worked for Vancouver Tug & Barge delivering groceries and supplies to the many small towns along the Georgia Strait. In 1953 Gary joined the RCAF to go and see the world and he enjoyed a very successful 28 year career. Upon retirement from the military Gary operated a successful business in Courtenay until he fully retired to the golf course at the age of 61. Gary was an avid fisherman, artist, judoka, games player, gardener, traveler, golfer and family comedian. A former Kiwanas President he also volunteered his time teaching Judo and lecturing cubs, scouts and cadets. Most of all Gary enjoyed spending time with his wife. Together they took many long trips always making time to visit friends and family along the way. Many an evening were spent around kitchen tables playing cards and listening to his funny stories. He will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and caregivers who helped Gary stay at home with his family as he had wished.

A celebration of Gary's life will be held at The 888 Wing Thursday, June 12th, at 12 noon. We invite all friends and family to join us to share memories of this wonderful man. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
