On Tuesday, February 18, 2003 Mr. Gerrit vanKooten, late of Port Alberni, BC, passed away in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox, BC, and went to be with his Lord and Saviour, at the age of 93 years.
Predeceased by his wife Elisabeth Johanna in 1988 and companion Margaret Crosswhite. Survived by his loving family, ten children: Lena and Mike Groenendyk, George and Belva vanKooten, Joe and Enid vanKooten, Jean and Fred Woppenkamp, Mickey and Fred Weening, Jake and Elaine vanKooten, Liz Merx, Pat and Dirk vanNus, John vanKooten, and Casey and Patryce vanKooten, 31 grandchildren numerous great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Gerrit was born in S’Hertogenbosch, Holland and moved to Canada in 1952. Funeral Service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2003 from the Knox Presbyterian Church, 4850 Regina Street, with Rev. Clay Kuhn and Rev. Bob Garvin officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Alberni Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Gerrit’s memory to the Know Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
Friends may pay their respects at the Chapel of Memories on Friday evening, February 21, 2003 between 8:15 and 9:15 p.m. Chapel of Memories entrusted with arrangements.
