EAGLE, Gwendolyn June, "GWEN"

Was unexpectedly called home by her Lord on May 18th, 2010, a call she looked forward to all her life. Born in Toronto as the youngest child of five (four of whom predeceased her) to Alexander and Mary Wilkie on June 7th 1930. Gwen married Desmond James Eagle on January 30th, 1954 in Toronto. Gwen became a devoted mother to Judy (Jim) Galpin, Christine (Mark) Dean and Ken and precious grandmother, mentor, example and friend to Kristina, Julia (Dana), Daniel (Holly), Brian and Adam, who in turn dearly loved her.

Always supportive of their business activities Gwen was co-owner of United Carpet, Courtenay and her sage advice contributed greatly to the company's success over the past 20 years.

Her lifetime commitment to Christian affairs saw her actively involved in various Churches in Ontario and British Columbia and for over thirty years she served faithfully with Christian Women's club (Stonecroft Ministries) which gave her particular delight. Ever a peacemaker she had the happy knack of being able to reconcile differences without offending, both within the family and outside of it. Gwen was respected highly by all who knew her. But - notwithstanding these activities, her family always came first. Nana was the treasure within the family and the memories will never grow dim or her influence wane.

A service of remembrance and celebration of Gwen's life will take place on Thursday, May 27th at 2:00 p.m. at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, 1101 Ryan Road with Rev. Dr. Daniel Kolke, a long time friend, officiating. If friends so wish, donations made in her memory to the Comox Valley Youth for Christ, PO Box 3333, Courtenay, B.C. V9N 5N5, or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, PO Box 1225, Comox, B.C. V9M 7Z8, would be much appreciated.
