BAY, Hans

Jan 23, 1923 - Jan 24, 2010

Hans died peacefully on the morning after his 87th birthday. As he

wished, he wasn't in a hospital bed.

Hans had a good long life. He loved having his family close, his animals, his garden and being active. He was "Green" long before it was trendy and loved to debate politics and religion. He grew up in the small community of Sjorring in Denmark. Finishing school at 14, he then went out to work, first on farms, then in the forests of Sweden and finally made his way to Canada, sponsored to work on a farm in Ontario. Working on the railroad took him to Vancouver Island where he settled, married and raised two daughters June (Gord and April) and Trina (Ed and Jasper). He spent his last working years at Farquharson Farms - keeping the workers in the field in line and giving advice in the nursery. He is predeceased by his wife Gertrud and all his siblings except his younger brother (Abel of Victoria). He lived on his own until last month, sawing his own firewood and biking around town. He had a "butler" in the house for the last 20 years - 1st George, then Donna, Jenny, Nancy and finally Jo-Ann. They all became family. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten by all who loved him.
