KENNEDY, Harold Gordon

Harold passed away on September 10, 2009 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox after a 7 month battle with lung cancer. Harold was born on October 9, 1932 in Powell River and moved to Union Bay in 1940. Harold will be missed by his loving wife of 53 years Donna-Rae; sons: Dale, Greg (Lynnel) and daughter Sandra (Lyle); grandson Matteo and step-granddaughter Brittany. He is also survived by brothers: Al (Ellen), Don (Luz) and Wayne (Donna); numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews including a large extended group in New Zealand and Australia.

Harold was well respected in his working career in logging as a faller and supervisor. In retirement he turned to wood carving with his specialty being boom chains. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially the fellowship that goes with upcountry hunting trips with the guys. Harold could always be counted on to help out when an extra pair of hands was needed. He spent countless hours working on the current clubhouse and site of the Courtenay Fish & Game Club where he served as a Director for many years. He was very proud to be honored as a Life Member there. Harold spent many hours with the Union Bay Boat Launch Committee helping tend to the grounds there and contributed to numerous other organizations over the years.

A celebration of Harold’s life will take place at the Courtenay Fish & Game Clubhouse on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold’s memory may be made to the BC Cancer Society.
