J. David T. Price

Price, J. David T.

1935 - 2002

J. David T. Price, 67 years old, died suddenly at his home on October 17, 2002. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Alexandra, in 1990. He is survived by his only child, Lisa, his sister, Diane, and his mother, Olive Price.

Dave began his career as a Physical Education teacher at Victoria High School. After gaining his Master’s degree (U. of Oregon, 1966), he became a Vice Principal, Principal, Director of Instruction, Superintendent of Schools (SD#84), ultimately retiring as an English Instructor at North Island College, Comox.

However, he would no doubt prefer to always be remembered simply as a teacher. He felt strongly that his own life had been immeasurably bettered by his childhood teachers, and he hoped to give back some of what they had given him.

Over the years, he touched countless lives as a counsellor for students, mentor for younger teachers, and by his frequent volunteer work. He was editor of the Fanny Bay Flyer, and involved himself in local planning committees with his usual enthusiasm right up until his death. He leaves behind many friends and acquaintances from all walks of life.

A big and burly fellow, Dave was the ultimate jock, who had competitively played and coached every sport imaginable, from rugby, to basketball, to tennis. He often said exactly what he felt, with much straightforwardness. Especially when it involved the welfare of students. And, it always came directly from his heart, which was so very kind and well meaning.

Per Dave’s wishes, there will be no funeral. A remembrance gathering is planned for November 2. Please call 250-335-0571 for further details.

If you wish to make a charitable donation on Dave’s behalf, please contact the SPCA. Dave would have appreciated the wonderful care they gave his two pets when he so suddenly had to leave us all.
