JAMES (JIM) McMANUS
1927-2003
Jim died at St. Joseph’s Hospital on March 29, 2003.
Jim was born in Whiteabbey, Northern Ireland to Charles and Isabella on January 15th, 1927. In 1943, at the age of 16, he joined the R.A.F. and became a tail gunner on a Halifax bomber. In 1947 he immigrated to Canada after serving 4 years in the R.A.F. Jim married Ellie Gauntlett in 1949. He served 29 years in the R.C.A.F./C.A.F. as an air traffic controller from 1952 to 1981. During his retirement years, Jim enjoyed travelling, golfing and boating.
Jim is survived by his wife Ellie, his daughter Kathy (Mario-Daniel) Choiniere, grandchildren: Jason (Darlene) Choiniere and Kimberly Choiniere and great-grandchild Austin James Choiniere; his son David (Rose) McManus, his step-grandchildren Lynne Stuart, Nicole (Ray) Fitzel, Marc Sylvestre and great-grandchildren Danielle, Shylah, Kirsten, Jessica, Renee, Zachary and Joshua. He is predeceased by his baby daughter Susan. Jim is predeceased by his siblings; Eleanor, Margaret, Sam, Beryl, David, Charles, Eileen, Betty and Bob. He is survived by his sister Jean (Charlie) McLure, brothers-in-law Robert and Ken; sisters-in-law May, Susan, Esther, Jaci and her children Robert and Kelly; nephew: Fredie; nieces Patti and Alexis (Bob) and their children Kevin and Michael (Sharon) and their children Ashton, Aidan and Acacia and nephew David (Mary) and their children. He will be sorely missed by Grace and Mac and their children Diana, Carolyn and Gordon and their grandchildren Shawn, Andrea, Allison, Danielle and Hunter.
Cremation will be followed by a memorial service at PIERCY’S FUNERAL HOME, 440 England Ave., Courtenay on Thursday, April 3rd, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Following the service a time of reception will be held in PIERCY’S GLACIER TEA ROOM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. MT. WASHINGTON FUNERAL HOME has been entrusted with arrangements.
