JAKUBIEC - Janek, born in Chelm, Poland, June 24, 1920; Janek passed away in Comox, B.C. on July 31, 2008. He was an active fixture at the YMCA in Hamilton, Ontario for decades as an enthusiastic instructor of various sports. Years after retirement, no audience was too small for him to be coaxed into flaunting 'iron crosses' on the rings or walking on his hands in shopping malls (followed by his victorious gale of laughter). Tennis, racquetball, handball, fishing, skiing, gardening & playing music were pursued, once the home improvements were finished for Joan.

From his post-WWII years burying Allies in their final resting places in France, Holland and Belgium - till his retirement from Stelco in Hamilton; Janek loved operating heavy equipment machinery.

Survived by his beloved 'honeybunch' Joan; son Roger (Shari); daughter Jana (Ken); his beloved grandchildren, Troy & Tara; Chelsea & Nathan. He also leaves behind many nephews and nieces around the world and cherished opponents on the playing field.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
