Kotcher, Jean Maria
July 19, 1947 – March 30, 2008
On March 30, 2008, Jean, loving mother, devoted wife, treasured mother-in-law, caring nana, sister, dear friend, teacher, and inspiration to many, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Born in Burbank, California and resettled in British Columbia, Jean made the Comox Valley her home for over thirty years. An inspiring and nurturing teacher, Jean taught many children not only how to read and write, but also how to understand the world, with openness and curiosity, through life’s ups and downs. A great supporter of the teaching profession, she served as President of the Courtenay District Teacher’s Association for six years. Jean, a skilled mediator, also worked with the British Columbia Teacher’s Federation Internal Mediation Service for several years. Jean had a special gift for encouraging all creatures, big and small. She loved nature, gardening, photography, walking, and being outdoors. She will be with all of us when we garden, when we walk, and when we inspire and love each other as she did throughout her life. Jean lived life with the energy and passion of one who is adventurous and loving. Her strength of spirit, enthusiasm for life, and uncompromising search for happiness was and will always be an inspiration to all of us. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UNICEF or the charity of your choice. At Jean’s request, a private memorial will be held for her at her home.
