Jean Winnifred Munro passed away peacefully at Glacier View Lodge on September 28th, 2006 at the age of 85. Jean leaves behind numerous relatives including her sisters: Eileen Stevens of Port Alberni and Theo Hughes of Courtenay. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Bill, Dawne (Jaime), Pauline (Charlie), Margo and Rock (Rosalie); her eight grandchildren: Cassandra, Marcel, Amanda, Jennifer (Jeremiah), Ellice, Amy and Stephen; and great-granddaugher Avah. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, their spouses and children. She will be missed by all. Jean was born in Rutland, Saskatchewan on March 29th, 1921 the third of five children to Joseph Theodore and May Louise Dorman. The family moved to BC in 1925 and Jean spent most of her childhood growing up and attending school in Burnaby. After high school, Jean became a school teacher and taught until 1945 when she married Bert Munro a young serviceman from Naramatta, BC.

Three of their five children Bill, Dawne and Pauline were born in Penticton before the family moved to Vancouver where Margo and Rocky were born. They moved from Vancouver to Burnaby in 1965 and then Jean moved to the Comox Valley in 1993 where she could be closer to her sisters. Jean will be remembered as the best cookie maker ever, and avid gardener with a passion for growing things and caring for people. The family would like to thank the loving and kind staff of Glacier View Lodge who cared for Jean as if she were their own grandmother and made her last home enjoyable for both Jean and her family. The family would also like to thank Dr. Susan Hunter for her excellent care over the years. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Betty Newman, her brother Jack and loving husband Bert Munro. Jeans' Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 4th, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Piercy’s - Mt. Washington Funeral Home on 440 England Avenue, Courtenay, BC. Arrangements have been entrusted to Piercy’s - Mt. Washington Funeral Home.
