John passed away quietly in his sleep at St. Joseph's Hospital on Monday, February 4, 2008. He was predeceased by his wife Pearl Derrick; stepson Ernest Derrick; parents James and Ivy Jackson; brothers Gordon, Percy and Joey and sister Maggie Howich (Jack). John is survived by his stepdaughters Lorraine Johnson (Tim), Penticton, B.C., Dana-Ann Derrick (Ace), Courtenay and Geri Derrick, Nanaimo; grandchildren Tina and Terry Derrick-Strobbe, Burnaby and great-grandchildren Steven and Michael Derrick-Strobbe and Johnathan and Dana Johnson and a sister Gladys Kenyon (Jack), California. Jack was a fisherman and did some logging. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and making home brew. His last 2 1/2 years were spent at the E.C.U. St. Joseph's General Hospital, Comox where they treated him with great care, respect and dignity. John was a good and decent man. He raised us children as though we were his own. We all cared for him and wish him well in heaven with mom. He was treated with the most respect being a caring man. He will be missed by us all. COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 1101 RYAN ROAD entrusted with arrangements. A Graveside Service will be held at the Courtenay Civic Cemetery on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 1:30 p.m..
