Hunter, John (Jack) McNee

1932 - 2003

Born September 8, 1932 in Powasson, Ontario, passed away peacefully at home in Courtenay, B.C. August 11, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margie; son John (Rose West); daughters Wendy (Jim), and Laurie; grandsons Jason & Stuart; granddaughters Sydney & Tess, Andrew & Jennifer West; brothers Art (Caryn) and Clay (Karen); 1st wife Fern, and many loving relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents Charlie & Blanche Hunter, sisters Arline, Iris, Wanda, Leona; brothers E.G., Roy & Rex.

Jack served 25 years with the Canadian Armed Forces (Air) in Telecommunications, retiring in 1973. He was employed by RCMP Telecommunications Services from 1973 to 1988, where upon he retired to Courtenay to enjoy hobby farming and fishing.

Jack easily met and made lifelong friends wherever he worked and travelled throughout his life. He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, and his gift of conversation and storytelling. Jack was an avid sports man all his life. In his younger “glory” days, he excelled in basketball and fastball, and coached each of his children in fastball through their formative years. In retirement he especially loved fishing, and spent many hours on the water. Throughout the years Jack loved and cared for the family pets, and his love of animals earned him the well deserved title of “Dr. Doolittle” at home. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Jack’s family would like to thank all the dedicated and caring Home Care nurses, Dr. Desmond Konway, Joan Dwyer, and especially Peter & Diana Dobbs and Ron Dawe for all their kindness and support.

A service celebrating Jack’s life will be held Friday, August 15, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Jack’s name to the charity of your choice.
