John Stephen (Steve) Mooney

December 17, 1940 – June 13, 2009

Steve slipped away peacefully at St. Joseph’s hospital in Comox, BC after a lengthy illness in the arms of his loving family. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 47 years and best pal, Sharon, their daughters, Michelle (Gary) and grandsons, Michael 9 and Colin 7, Leslie (Mike) and Leslie’s daughters Nadine 19, Kelly 17, and Katrina 13 and his sister, Kathleen (Germain) Berthiaume. Born and raised in Victoria, Steve attended St. Louis College and Mt. Douglas High School. He was predeceased by his mom and dad, John and Alice Mooney. AKA “Mr. and Mrs. Square Dance of Victoria.”

Steve entered the real estate industry in 1968 as a salesperson with D.F Hanley Agencies. Eventually turning to his passion for designing and developing, he was responsible for many lovely homes and subdivisions. Steve was honest, hardworking and highly respected in the real estate business. After moving to Port Alberni Steve owned and operated two Re/Max offices until 1994. Steve and Sharon then moved to retire in the Comox Valley to be close to Leslie and her girls.

Steve enjoyed life to the fullest with his family and friends, especially at his cabin on Sproat Lake. He was a very loving “Poppa” to his 5 grandchildren and was so proud of his fabulous daughters. Steve and Sharon raised many puppies and more recently he loved his four legged friends, Mickey, Poppy, Rascal and Spooky the cat.

Sharon would like to thank all the staff on the second floor of St. Joseph’s for their wonderful care and attention given to Steve during his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Victoria Society for Children with Autism (VSCA) or the S.P.C.A At Steve’s request there will be no service, however, please join us all at Michelle’s house at 2681 Arbutus Road in Victoria on the corner of Dawe and Arbutus. from 1 – 4 P.M. on June 20th to share in good memories of Steve.
