DUQUETTE, Joseph Gilles Gerard

March 21, 1935 to Nov. 18, 2010

Gilles was born in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan to Odias and Melina Duquette. After graduating, Gilles was an airframe mechanic in the RCAF, worked for MacMillan Blodel, taught in Quebec, and then became a carpenter. He remained an avid reader throughout his life, and loved to travel with his family.

Gilles began his own family by marrying Linda Klockow, and later becoming a father to Colleen Holden (nee Duquette). Years later, Gilles, Linda, and Colleen built the family home. In 1991, after Linda lost her battle with cancer, Gilles moved to the Comox Valley to be closer to his infant granddaughters, Jessica and Shanelle Holden. They grew up constantly at their grandfather’s side, and he will be profoundly missed.

Gilles was predeceased by brothers Andre and Pat, and is survived by his sisters: Fern McFarlane, Cecile and Gertrude Duquette, and brothers: Aime, Raymond, Louis and Adophe Duquette. Joining them in mourning his passing are the 17 nieces and nephews who loved and appreciated their uncle’s sense of humour and integrity.

Gilles will also be missed by his church family and friends at the Comox Valley Community Church. There will be a celebration of his life there (1580 Fitzgerald Ave.) on December. 4 at 2 p.m.
