Karl Lederis

LEDERIS, Dr. Karl, most recently of Comox, B.C. died peacefully on March 17, 2007.  He is survived by daughter Aldona Lederis, & husband Mel Lipsey, of San Diego, CA., son Ed Lederis, wife Heather & their children Paul and Kristine of Victoria, B.C, and his partner, Inge Naglis.  His wife, Hildegard passed away Nov. 2000.

Karl was born in Lithuania in 1920 and resided in England from 1945 until 1969, when the family moved to Calgary.

Karl’s scientific career, which began at the Univ. of Bristol, U.K. and ended at Medical School at U of Calgary, spanned almost 50 years.  As Professor of Pharmacology & Therpeutics, he was researcher, educator, author and editor.  He was appointed to the Medical Research Council of Canada and served as exec. 1983-1990, was Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology 1977-89, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and Professor Emeritus, U of C 1989-2007.  His work is noted for a significant discovery of a mechanism that releases molecules which regulate anterior pituitary gland function in humans. 

Although we are saddened by the loss of our father, grandfather, friend, scientist and companion, family and friends invite you to a Celebration of Karl’s life at the Edgewater (upstairs), in Comox, 2-5p.m., March 23.  In lieu of flowers, Karl requested that donations be made to the BC Cancer Foundation, 2410 Lee Ave., Victoria B.C. V8R 6V5.
