BEARD, Kathleen (Kay) (nee) McNevin
Kay passed away September 16, 2010 at the Victoria Hospice in Victoria, B.C. She was born in Edmonton AB and raised in Rimbey AB. Kay worked her way through university, earning a home economy degree in teaching. She taught several years in Alberta before moving to Duncan B.C. where she taught school.
In 1940 she took a year of post graduate study in public health at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Returning to Victoria, she worked for the public health branch of the B.C. government for 8 years.
During this time, she met and married Cyril Beard and shared a pleasant workfilled life with him. Together they operated a berry farm on Cordova Bay Road. When Cy left radio station C.J.V.I., they increased the size of the berry farm and Kay returned to teaching. After they sold the farm, they spent many happy years at McBriar Ave. growing apples, plums, berries and roses for their own enjoyment. Cy passed away in 1994. Kay lived the last 7 years of her life at Rosebank Gardens, where she enjoyed living in an assisted care condo.
Kay will be missed by her nephews and nieces and their families. We wish to thank her many kind friends, in particular, Sally, Linda, Dr. Ted Rosenberg and staff, and the staff at the Victoria Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Kay
A memorial service will be held later in the fall.
