ALGER, Kathleen Marian

(DUBOIS)

Aug 17, 1903 - Mar 8, 2005

Kathleen passed away peacefully in the early morning hours at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox, BC where she had been admitted the previous Friday. Kathleen was born in Tottenham, England, the oldest of eight children born to Henry and Amelia Dubois. She immigrated to southeast Saskatchewan in 1911, completing school in Arcola. After qualifying as a teacher she worked briefly in western Saskatchewan. There she met Victor Alger, who was working on the harvest holiday program. They were married in 1926 and she returned with Vic to Acton, Ontario, where she would remain for 60 years. She was predeceased by her husband in 1951 and returned to teaching school. Kathleen taught a grade one class in Acton Public School for 20 years, retiring at the age of 65. She left Acton in 1986 to move to Nanaimo in order to be nearer family. She moved to Comox in 1997.

Kathleen was predeceased by her brothers Edward (Vida) and Walter (Mary), and her sisters Marguerite Marshall (Harry), Rose and Dorothy. She is survived by her two youngest brothers, William and Phillip (Bernice), two nieces and several nephews. Kathleen enjoyed excellent health, living in her own home until a few days before her death. She will be remembered for her generous nature, positive attitude and a ready smile that could light up a room.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter’s Church in Comox at 1:30 Thursday, March 17 with a reception to follow at Stevenson Place, 1683 Balmoral Ave.
