of Courtenay passed away on Friday, February 17, at St. Joseph’s General Hospital after a valiant fight with cancer. He is survived by his wife Sharleen, sons Jason Lars, Joshua David and daughter Jodi Ann, brother Gordon Blair Wires and his mother and father Dave and Julie Wires, grandchildren Justin Blair and Jordyn Elizabeth, all of Courtenay. Ken loved his whole family and was loved by them.

Ken was part of a military family who moved from Nova Scotia to BC, back to Nova Scotia and finally back to BC where he met and married Sharleen. Ken was a welder by trade and had worked in several mines over the years in BC and NWT including SNIP at Bronson Creek and the DeBeers, Snap Lake Project, north of Yellowknife. He was a hard worker who was liked by all. When Ken was home he loved to get out in the woods, to pick mushrooms or to generally enjoy nature. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Reggler and the many doctors and other staff from hospitals in Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo and Comox who rendered assistance during this battle. A special thank you goes out to Dr. John Cline and staff in Nanaimo for keeping hope alive against enormous odds. Finally, Ken’s church family who held up his hands with prayers during this time.

Ken knew Jesus as Saviour and was welcomed into Glory by Him. A Celebration of Ken’s life will be held Friday, February 24th, 1pm at Aaron House Christian Fellowship, 3455 Cumberland Rd. Arrangements entrusted to COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM, 1101 RYAN ROAD.
