It is with sadness that we mourn the passing of Lena Clare Mary Clarke nee Champion. She passed away quietly Tuesday, 16 November 2010 at Glacier View Lodge. Born in Woolwich, County London England, 24 June, 1921. Lena is predeceased by her husband Douglas Samuel Clarke.

She leaves her children Richard Clarke, Nancy Landry nee Clarke and husband Claude, Vina Clarke, and Stella Clarke Chester and husband Tom. She is missed by her grandchildren Stephen and Suzanne Chester, and Aedan Ladd as well as her adopted grandchildren Bart and Randy Welsh. Lena is remembered fondly by her cousin Rachel and husband David Godden (Dover, England), James Ladd and family, and Anthea Windsor and family.

Lena came to Canada as a war bride in 1946 settling in Weyburn Saskatchewan. One of her great passions was for the Girl Guide movement. She spent nearly twenty years as a leader, commissioner and provincial secretary with the Girl Guides. She moved to the Comox Valley in 1984. Lena was a member of the local War Brides Association, Comox Valley Weavers, and volunteered with the Comox United Church.

Lena was a true blue Girl Guide, always prepared. She gave lovingly and generously to her family.

A special heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Glacier View Lodge; who provided wonderful care for four years. Thank you to Dr. Bell and Dr. Schovenick for your care.

A memorial service was held at Comox United Church on Saturday, November 20th. The family would like to thank Reverend Maggie Enwright , Carol Jennermann, and all those who attended. Thank you to the Comox Valley Funeral Home.
