Leslie Dennis Cartwright

October 21, 1917 ~ December 8, 2009

Les was born in Croydon, England and died peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox. He is survived by his wife Joan, sister Vera, son Peter (Lisa), daughters Diane (Claude), Frances (Michel) and Wende; and grandchildren Nicola, Sally and Rupert.

He lived with his family in Burnaby, Britannia Beach, Gold River and Courtenay. He was involved in politics as an Alderman and Mayor in Gold River and as a Regional Board Director for Gold River and Area C in the Comox Valley. Throughout his life he also contributed to many organizations as a volunteer.

After retirement he resumed playing his favorite game - golf - which he'd started as a young man in Singapore, where he was stationed with the RAF. He also loved puttering, living and working on his property and became an avid birdwatcher from the comfort of his easy chair.

He was feisty man with strong opinions and an excellent sense of humour. He was fearless about fighting for what he believed in and not shy about letting anyone know where he stood. He'll be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life is planned for January 31st in Courtenay - for more information please email to ldc@cartcon.ca
