HURLEY

Lorraine Christine (nee Gurvich)

April 22, 1934 - October 2, 2008

It is with great sadness that the family of Lorraine Christine Hurley announces her passing at home on Thursday, October 2, 2008. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Vern, daughter Catherine Smith, and parents Spiro and Mary Gurvich.

Lorraine was born in Prince Rupert, B.C. on April 22, 1934. Although born and raised in Rupert, Lorraine spent most of her life in the Comox Valley. She had a lengthy career in the food service industry. Lorraine was the manager of the Mr. Mike's restaurant in Courtenay and worked for many years at the Cumberland Health Center.

Lorraine loved to work in her garden, where the boundless clematis was her pride and joy. She spent many happy hours with her dogs, Mai Tai and Reno, who were her constant companions. Lorraine was also a great cook, and many wonderful family moments took place in the kitchen. Nana will be remembered for her acts of kindness and caring, especially to her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who she loved very much.

Lorraine is lovingly remembered by her children Peter Hurley (Judith) of Placitas, New Mexico, Janice McQueen (Barry) of Courtenay, and Lori-Anne Hurley of Courtenay; five grandchildren, Michael Smith of Vancouver, Lindsay McQueen of Ucluelet, and Brooke McQueen, Alison McQueen, and Max Hurley of Courtenay; her sister Patricia Dill (Larry) of Burnaby; her cousin Donna Yzerman of Courtenay; and her many nieces and nephews, extended family and great friends.

The family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the Comox Valley Hospice Society, the home support aides, nurses, the Red Cross and Dr. Wiens.

A visitation will be offered on Friday, October 10, 2008 from 7-8pm at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, 1101 Ryan Road Courtenay, B.C. A Celebration of Life for Lorraine will be held on October 11, 2008, at 1:30 PM in the chapel of the Comox Valley Funeral Home.
