1919 - 2010


Joan (Anderson) McMonnies of Courtenay died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Wednesday, March 24, 2010.


She was predeceased by her mother Kate Hannah (Potts) Anderson; her father Herbert Glass Anderson; her beloved husband Graeme Seaforth McMonnies; her brother Richard Philip Anderson and her grand-nephew Joseph Bruce Skogan.


Joan will always be lovingly remembered by her sister Beatrix Mary (Betty), nephew John Macintyre, both in Vancouver; nieces Joan Skogan, Nanaimo and May Lortie, Comox; nephew David McMonnies, Courtenay; Anderson, nieces and nephews living in many places, and her dear friends in Union Bay, Courtenay and Comox.


Joan knew how to take joy in life. She loved the Union Bay home she shared with Graeme and their frequent travels in Britain. She enjoyed ocean swimming, golf, bridge and a good party. Joan often spoke of how much she had loved her work as a teacher. She taught for more than thirty years at Tsolum, Grantham, Arden, Puntledge, Airport and Cumberland schools. Some of her old students had visited her recently.


A celebration of Joan McMonnies’ life will take place at 2pm, Saturday, April 17, 2010 at The Westerly Hotel, 1590 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay BC.


Instead of flowers donations may be given to St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation; The Palliative Care Project
