MARTHA BROWN

Martha Brown passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2007. She was predeceased by her first husband George Brown Sr., second husband Aubrey (Skate) Hames, brothers Joseph, William and Bob Storie and sister Christina. She is survived by her son George Brown (Carol) of Campbell River, her daughter Isy Shillito (Gus) of Campbell River, her grandchildren; Marci (Mark), Kathi (Murray), Bill (Diana), Jeani (Glenn), Rob, Vance (Ann), Sari (Bob) and Jim (Tish), 18 great grandchildren, her sister Annie Widen of Campbell River, her sister-in-law Gertrude of Courtenay as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Wilcox who cared for Martha for many years and most recently Dr. Veerapen. A special thanks to the home support girls and nurses who gave her such kindly care and also the hospital staff who looked after Martha during her short stay in her final days. In her leisure time Martha enjoyed gardening, was an avid bird watcher and participated in the annual bird count for many years. She was a lover of nature and all of the outdoors. She dearly loved all of her pets and her most recent companion dog “Pepper.” At a very young age Martha inherited her love for literature from her father and spent many happy hours reading on the beach. She was born on April 7th, 1911 in Cumberland Hospital to Bill and Hannah Storie and was raised on the farm at Stories Beach, and married George Brown in 1931 and moved just up the road to Shelter Bay where they raised their two children who still reside on the property today. Martha is dearly loved and missed by her family that she treasured and shared many cups of tea with. Donations made in Martha’s memory to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Private arrangements were entrusted to Island Funeral Services / Elk Falls Crematorium, Campbell River.
