Mary was born in Powell River, the fifth of six children, and passed away at her home in Black Creek. She was predeceased by her sister Barbara, her father Thomas Douglas Scott and her mother Ellen Elisabeth Scott (Gustafson). Mary is survived and will be sadly missed by her husband of 47 years, John Matthews and her sons David Scott Matthews and Kevin John Matthews. The family moved to Black Creek in 1979 where Mary worked for Sears for a number of years before starting her own home based business “Grandma’s Gourmet.” Afflicted with Multiple Myloma in 1997, Mary devoted her time to nurturing her family, home, garden and many friends. Sincere thanks to Dr. John Shepherd, Dr. Richard Engman, Dr. John Fitzpatrick as our GP and friend over the last 25 years and particular thanks to Dr. Alfredo Tura for his help and support in the last few days. Thanks as well to the kind staff at St. Joe’s 3rd floor , the community home nurses and the hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift to VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, 855 west 12th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 1M9 to support the Leukemia / Bone Marrow Transplant Program.
