BEATTY, Michael Brown

1930 - 2010

Passed away in Comox, B.C. on April 26th, 2010 aged 80 years. He was predeceased by his brother Clifford W. Beatty and brother-in-law Dr. William Hunter. Michael is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife Diana Jean (Wilding) Beatty, his son David Malcolm Beatty and Kim (Kerr) Beatty of Toronto, Ontario, his daughter Carol Jean (Beatty) Ackerman and Rodney Edward Ackerman of Newtown, Connecticut, his grandchildren; Christopher and Chas Beatty and Susan Marie Ackerman, his sister Jane G. (Beatty) Hunter of Toronto, Ont. and Patricia May Beatty of Toronto, Ont., his sister-in-law Lenore (Chambers) Beatty of Toronto, Ont. as well as his nieces and nephews; Karen and Stephen Beatty, James, Jennifer and Andrew Hunter and Drew and Barbara Malcolm. He was a member of the Osler Bluff Ski Club in Collingwood, Ont., the Toronto Golf Club in Toronto, Ontario and the Mt. Washington Alpine Resort in Courtenay, B.C. Michael was a commercial real estate broker in Toronto, Ont. Michael’s accomplishments in commercial real estate were truly outstanding. He pioneered land use rights and transfers in downtown Toronto and surrounding areas. His accomplishments can be seen in the Renaissance Centre, “Trinity Square” granite place, St. Andrew’s Church, and the Lord Simcoe Hotel. In his leisure time Michael enjoyed Golf, Skiing and Jazz. When Michael retired at age 63, he turned to his favourite activity and became a certified ski instructor. He loved teaching people to ski, children and adults and they all loved him. He taught downhill skiing at Mt. Washington on Vancouver Island till he was 75, and could ski with “the best of them”. He was his own person, always had a twinkle in his eye. He was very kind and had a “joyfully wicked” sense of humour. His artistic sense was extraordinary and became more evident as he got older. Thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital ECU, where he got wonderful care and lots of good mental stimulation. If friends so wish, donations made in Michael’s memory to St. Joseph’s ECU would be appreciated
