It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Michael John Edward Currie announce his passing at the age of 66. Mike passed peacefully with his wife by his side on April 5, 2017. He was born on December 6, 1950 in Galt, Ontario. At 18 Mike joined the RCMP which took him to Kamloops, BC. This is where he met his wife and love of his life of almost 40 years. Winters of playing, coaching and watching hockey; Summers filled with camping, playing and umping slow pitch. Mike was a smartass but also a very happy, strong willed and stubborn man. Mike and Judy moved to Airdrie, AB in 2007 to be closer to their daughters, where he was able to relax and enjoy retirement. Mike is lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy Currie (nee: Harris); daughters, Kyla (Airdrie, AB) and Tamara Currie (Pincher Creek, AB); two sons-in-law, Scott Burge (Edmonton, AB) and Ryan Robutka (Pincher Creek, AB); as well as his little granddaughter and light of his life, Molly Robutka (Pincher Creek, AB). He was an amazing husband, father, Papa, friend and mentor for many people over the years. His willingness to help anyone and commitment to family will always be strong traits that he will forever be remembered for. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 4N2.
