Neil Kenneth (Ken) Cook

September 8, 1948 – March 28, 2007

After a 4 ½ year battle with a failing liver and cancer, Ken snuck out the back door when we weren’t watching. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 27 years and 4 stepdaughters: Karina (John), Monica (Darryl), Penelope and Michelle (Patrick). He also leaves his mother, Shirley (George), his sisters, Janice (Gary), Louise (Brad) and his brother, Jack (Hui) as well as 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 3 nephews and 2 nieces and many, many friends.

Ken loved walking, his dog Sika, bulldozers and anything to do with moving the earth, reading, Lucky Lager, Wiser’s Rye Whiskey and Nascar racing. He also built an open topped outdoor aviary so he could feed and watch the wild birds he so loved.

He was a 35 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, and as a Heavy Equipment Operator, he spent many years in the Mining and Logging industries in and around Port Hardy. He was a low key guy with a lovely sense of humor and a marvelous smile but he could also tell it like it was, but gently. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Many thanks to Dr. Potter-Cogan and Dr. Engman for their care and concern for him.

A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Cumberland Hotel, Cumberland, BC.
