~ October 3, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden loss of our beloved husband, father, son and brother. Nick will be greatly missed by his wife Charity, sons Kyuss (6), Hawksley (3), parents Carol and Lewis Longland, in-laws Derek and Cathy Newnes, sisters Susan Longland, Sandra Longland (Bill Jackson), Shelley (Bill Irving), brother Scott (Liz) brother-in-law Jeremy Newnes (Aki), nephews Jason Vella, Liam and Josh Irving, and nieces Raiya Newnes, Alicia Jackson, Uncle Dave Dawson and all who knew him.

Nick was born in Comox, he always had a smile on his face. As the youngest of five children, he was a happy little boy who was always ready to have his picture taken. As a young boy he enjoyed soccer, rugby, skateboarding, baseball and was a Sea Cadet. Nick graduated from Highland Secondary School in the class of 1990. Nick loved playing hockey and had been on the ice with the Pig Dusters hockey team when he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Many people may know Nick from helping his dad at RE Longland Trucking, or when he tended bar at the Black Fin Pub and most recently working closely with his wife in the family business at Searle’s Shoes.

Nick was a dedicated family man whose loss is still hard to believe., family gatherings will not be the same. He was passionate about coaching Kyuss’ soccer team. Nick was loved dearly and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers an account has been set up at the Coastal Community Credit Union on Fourth Street in the name of his sons Kyuss and Hawksley Longland.

A celebration of Nick’s life will be held Saturday, October 10th at 2 p.m. from Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Road.
