FRASER, Pam

April 5, 1949 ~ October 24, 2010

In sorrow but with deep love and affection, our family announces the passing of Pam Fraser (Nana) in the early morning, October 24, 2010. It is such hard work to live courageously with cancer for so many years and Pam was tired. She slipped away from this life gently. It was as Pam wanted - being at peace and in the sanctity of home on Cortes Island. Just days earlier she was resting in her garden, gazing out to the water and coast mountains.

Pre-deceased by her infant son Delaney and stepdaughter Emily Ellingsen (Woolley). Pam will be greatly missed by her oldest and dearest friend, husband John Woolley, stepchildren Myann and Jack Woolley, and cherished granddaughters Fairahn and Mira; brothers Brian Fraser (Patsy), David Fraser (Salley), nephew Craig Fraser (Karen), and nieces Kathleen and Heather Fraser. Pam's generosity of spirit and that big smile from her heart will be remembered by all in her extended family and her many dear friends, especially the children.

For many seasons Pam was a tree planter and later, a supervisor with Brinkman Silviculture operations. These experiences led her to studies in Adult Education at UBC and on to become a career counselor, most recently at the Opportunities Centre in Courtenay. She was a source of joy and inspiration to all who met her. You couldn't be in Pam's company without being reminded of your better self. We are all modest some of the time, positive some of the time, happy and selfless some of the time - but Pam was all of these things all of the time. Truly a remarkable and beautiful woman.

Thank-you and heartfelt appreciation to all the many excellent doctors and nurses and medical support persons who have been with Pam on her long journey. And a very special thank-you to Geri Arkell and the amazing cancer care team at Campbell River Hospital, Dr. Jim Proctor, and Dr. Kirstie Overhill, our guardian angel on Cortes Island.

A family celebration of Nana Pam will be held in Victoria in the near future.
