BOB NISSEN


Paul Axel Robert Nissen was born on February 11, 1929 in Arrowwood, Alberta. After a lengthy illness, Bob peacefully passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital on May 17, 2009 with his loving wife at his side.

He was predeceased by his parents, Nis and Kristiana Nissen and his sister, Inger Everett.

He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Dorothea (Dot) and his sons Rob (Lorraine), Calgary, Jim, Comox and Don, Victoria, B.C., as well as his grandson Derek, Black Creek. Also survived by his brother, Eric of High River, Alberta, his nephew Peter Everett (Elizabeth) of Victoria, plus one niece and several nephews in Alberta, as well as special family friends, the Allen & Ruth Benbow family.

Following a successful career in home building and property development in and around Calgary, in the early 1970's he relocated to Vancouver Island where he developed the Saratoga subdivision and the Pacific Playgrounds Resort, Marina and Golf Course.

The family would like to thank the Oyster River Fire Department, Dr. Murphy and the nursing staff at St. Joseph's Emergency Ward for their kind and compassionate care during Bob's final hours. As well, a special thank you to Bob's good friend, Martin Stolzenbach for always being there during Bob's lengthy illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Oyster River Fire Department, Rescue Fund or the charity of your choice.

A Service of Remembrance in Celebration of his life took place at Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay, B.C. on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Randy Beatty officiating.
