BROWN RICHARDS

May 15, 1914 - Oct. 29, 2007

Peter Brown Richards passed away in his ninety-fourth year, predeceased by his beloved wife Florence, having celebrated over 60 years of marriage.  Since then, Brown resided at Glacier View Lodge enjoying the very special care of the staff.

He is survived by his two sons Allan (Elaine) of Courtenay, Tim (Gail) of Ladysmith and grandchildren Jeff (Joanna) and Heather (Jon). “Brownie” as he was called by many friends, was a Credit Union Pioneer in British Columbia, managing the PMHE (later Dogwood) Credit Union in Coquitlam for many years.  He also served on the Board of the B.C. Central Credit Union and on the building committee of the B.C. Central Building in downtown Vancouver.  He approved hundreds of building loans on a hand-shake and relished seeing people’s dreams come to life with the assistance of the Credit Union.

Dad loved hands-on building projects which included “the cabin up Indian Arm”.  During his retirement years in Central Saanich, he was a leader in constructing the boat ramp in Sidney as well as the Lawn Bowling Green in Central Saanich. He outfitted a wonderful wood-working shop and spent many happy hours there, building and repairing.  Along with his “can-do” attitude, he has left a terrific legacy to his sons.

What can we say: “A remarkable man! We love you, Dad.”

Flowers are gratefully declined however if you wish, in memory of Brown please give to your local Boys and Girls Club. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday November 3 at 1:00 pm at the COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION & RECEPTION CENTRE 1101 Ryan Road Courtenay.
