STEIL, Raymond Edwin

September 22, 1944 ~ May 20, 2010

Our dear husband, father, grandfather and friend lost his courageous six month battle with a very aggressive cancer and passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving wife and children. Ray is predeceased by his father Edwin and sister Yvonne.

Ray left behind to carry on his memory, Shirley, his wife and best friend of 45 years, Vic, his son, Tesa (Larry) his daughter, Brianna, his granddaughter, and his "furry friend" Kirby. He will also be greatly missed by his mother, Irene, sisters Annette (Bob), Deanna (Jim) and brother Robert (Sharon) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ray was born in Spalding, Sask. and grew up in Foam Lake, Sask. where he met the love of his life. After high school he joined the RCAF in 1963 choosing armament as his trade. 3 Wing Zweibrucken, Germany was to be the first of many postings that Ray enjoyed with his family. Others included Cold Lake, A.B., Bagotville, Que., Comox B.C., Chatham, N.B., Gander Nfld and back to Comox, BC., where he retired after 31 years of service. Those years allowed him to build many lasting friendships. Since Ray enjoyed the comaraderie of military life, he returned to work with the cadets right up until last year.

Ray was a quiet, reserved and practical man who enjoyed helping out his family and friends whenever he could. Because he loved spending his time outdoors, camping, boating and fishing with his family and friends was always a big part of his life. One more fishing trip is planned for Ray and we all hope he catches the "Big One."

We will miss you, Ray. You will remain in our hearts forever. Love always from your family and friends.

There is no service by request. A private gathering with family and friends will be held at a later date.

Donations in Ray's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
