Regina (Rini) Biggs

April 23, 1923 - November 24, 2009

Rini, as she was known, was fluent in several languages, was a ?swimmer, weaver, spinner, and  teacher who thrived to be expert in ?all things she attempted. To hone her skills she took courses at the ?University of New Brunswick, Carleton University in Ottawa, and ?Bochum University in Germany. This mother, grandmother, and teacher, ?never stopped learning but despite this could not avoid becoming a ?victim of Alzheimer’s disease and spent the last many years of her ?life in care. She and her husband Bill met at the end of WWII in ?Holland and Rini came to Canada as a war bride.??Because of Alzheimer’s Rini has been missed by family and friends for ?many years: her husband Bill; son Douglas; daughter Jennifer ?( Robert ); grandchildren Matthew, Rachael, James, Theo and Robin; ?daughter-in-law Caroline; family members in Europe: Karin, Carola, ?sister Lies, brother Theo ( Dolly) ; in the USA, sister Gertrude?(Richard) and many in-laws, nieces and nephews in Canada, Europe, and ?the USA.??A special thanks to Dr. Matous and staff, St Joseph’s Hospital staff, ?and volunteers who showed Rini care and love during her years in ?care, and especially to the Nurses and Care Aides at Eagleview who ?went that extra mile to ease her journey into the darkness of ?Alzheimer’s.

??Cremation arranged by Piercy's ~ Mt. Washington Funeral Home. There will be no ?formal service as was her wish. Her ashes will be placed in a niche ?at Courtenay Civic Cemetery . A memorial service will be held ?at St Joseph’s Hospital Care Unit, The Views, at 2pm Dec 16, 2009.??
