Mattila
Renee Daniell
(Nee Tomlinson)
October 10, 1977
~ September 16, 2009
Beloved wife of James Mattila; devoted stepmother of Vienna and Christopher. Precious daughter of Marita (Mario) Sanchez, Daniel (Denise) Tomlinson. Loving sister and soul sister of Erynn Tomlinson, Adom Bromley and Scot Tomlinson. Adoring Granddaughter, cousin, and niece of The Bromley Clan, The Tomlinson Clan and families: Mattila, Sanchez and Joliecoeur. Loyal friend and colleague of so many people in this world, far too numerous to list, but you know who you are!
Through her teaching, she was able to share her unquenchable thirst for learning and knowledge. Her passion emanated in her being. It radiated in all aspect of her life. That light has lit and lights the way for many, in more ways than she will ever know.
Renee colored the world like a kaleidoscope through the performing arts and art. She loved to read, paint, sing, act and create. Ailanthus and Little Theatre were highlights.
Renee’s positive experience as a Brownie guided her to becoming a leader for “SPARKS” in Comox and Cumberland. She was recently honoured with the Bronze Merit Award for her dedication to Guiding and providing exceptional service and programs to girls.
In the summer of 2005, Renee married her beloved James. Her arms opened wide to welcome her new blessings – Vienna and Christopher. Renee was devoted to her family, was a good wife, especially a good, loving mother. Her love, strength and passion held her family close.
When Renee was diagnosed with the worst possible breast cancer, with courage she held her light high. She studied the Arts in Italy, returned home and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree, Majoring in Liberal Studies and Majoring in Literature, AND she was on the Dean’s Hour Role.
Renee was to carry the Olympic Torch in November. We will carry your torch Renee.
Renee chose this prayer: The Unknown
The greatest unknown is
The end of our lives on earth.
In our mother’s womb we
Develop physical capacities
In preparation for this life.
In this world we develop
Spiritual qualities in preparation
For the next.
(Baha’i Faith)
Beautiful Renee is soaring with her angels. In light, in grace, in peace.
Renee’s spirit will go on to colour our world beautiful.
Words cannot express the loss and sorrow in our souls. Our families would like to thank so many for all your support and prayers. Thank you for your expert care and compassionate care, Dr. Green, Lynette, Vancouver Cancer Clinic, St. Joseph’s Hospital Doctors, Nurses, staff, Carla Arnold, people of Courtenay Superstore and so many more.
