MILLARD, Rhoda Joyce
Passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of November 9, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. She died as she had lived, surrounded by her family. At the time of her passing, Rhoda was with her sisters Donna Pepper and Wendy Strachan; her daughter Vanda Wood with husband Dan Porter and their children Colleen Hinkala, Christoper Wood and Alexandra Wood; her daughter Lisa Wood and Lisa’s daughter Robyn Surgenor with spouse Ray Baird. The family was with Rhoda during the five days she was at St. Joseph’s Hospital and her room was filled with tears and laughter and story telling. We will miss her more than words can say.
In the weeks and months, and years, preceding her death, Rhoda was lovingly cared for by Dr. Doreen Tetz, by the Hornby-Denman Home Support team expertly managed by Karen Etheridge and in particular, by her primary care-giver and her friend, Mary Hicks. The doctors and nurses at St. Joseph’s could not have done more for Mom, or for us. We are grateful for the expertise, kindness and compassion of everyone involved.
In accordance with Rhoda’s wishes, the family will have a private ceremony and at a later date, Rhoda’s ashes will be released over the farm “in a howling southeaster”. She always loved a good storm.
