ROBERT NORMAN HOME

1940 - 2007

A quiet, gentle, intelligent man

with a wry sense of humour.

Died at his home in Comox on July 4. Son of Maurice and Phyllis (Van Vliet) Home (both deceased) of Lennoxville, Quebec. Husband of Frieda (Elfriede Hoge) Home. Brother of Margaret Home and Elizabeth Gibson (Paul) of Toronto. Father of David Home (Alison Dawson) of Toronto and Susan Rosberg (Mike) of Ottawa. Grandfather of Adrienne and Simon Home of Toronto. Brother-in-Law of Reinhold Hoge of Refuge Cove.

Bob was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec and graduated from Bishop’s University in 1960. After Lennoxville, he lived in Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, London (Ontario) and the Comox Valley. He worked in the computer field until a brain injury 10 years ago radically changed his life.

He and Frieda were very fortunate to have so much help and support from some very special people. A great big hug Dr. Alfredo Tura, constant friend and confidant to both of us. Dankschen Reinhold Hoge for coming whenever help was needed. “It was an honour” Doug and Yvonne Lynn, of Vancouver. Thank you Gerrie Miller, Faye Mahoney and Jennifer Cooper for your loving care. Thank you Deb Wilson for your thoughtfulness, miles of swim therapy and your earnest hot tub chats. Thank you from both Bob and his computer Kevin Middleton for your good company and help for so many Sundays over the years. Thank you Dr. Desmond Konway for generously guiding Bob’s care and therapy and Heather Hodge for your devoted work-outs on the living room floor. Grazie tante GB and Roberta Tura for your special kindness, support and the wonderful food. Multumesc Dr. Daniela Chifor for your caring embrace. Thank you Lucy de Vries Stadelaar for your warm support. Thank you Dr. Jack Kyle for giving your time and candid counsel. Thank you Sue Madden, Diane Salter and Sharon Willemse for helping Frieda during some difficult times. Thank you again Diane Salter for being there to say good-bye. Thank you Nina and Roger Goodman for providing a respite haven for Frieda. Dankë Ruth Vanderlinden for your warmth and the cool comfort of complimentary ice cream. Thank you Wendy and Bill Meade, and arigato Sam Ogawa, for your courtesy. Thank you Dr. John Hershmiller and staff for your gentle care. Thank you Ron Kreyewski for the strong muscles. Thank you Dr. Doug Lee, Dr. Anton Scamvougeras and Dr. Jamie Wright, all of Vancouver, for continuing to help.

Bob’s ashes and spirit will be taken to his favourite fishing spot in Desolation Sound. The annual Barbeque planned for July 20, from 4pm to 8pm, will become a celebration of Bob’s life and is open to all who cared about him. Instead of flowers and in honour of Bob, please remember someone living who would benefit from your help or an act of kindness.
