Robert Russell

July 30, 1918 - February 16, 2009

Was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on July 30, 1918 and passed away in Comox on February 16, 2009. He was predeceased by his twin brother Clarence. Russell is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 66 years and son Robert (Gayle) of Calgary. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Don (Shannon) and Michelle and 2 great grandchildren Brenda and Adam as well as two sisters Phyllis and Irene both of Alberta. Russ was a loving father and husband always with his family’s best interests at heart. During Russell’s career in the Canadian Armed Forces, from 1942 to 1974, he lived in France as well as various places across Canada. He and Evelyn retired to Comox in 1973 where Russ was able to fulfill his dream of having a cabin cruiser able to cruise the west coast. His life-long love of hunting and fishing culminated in his fishing charters in the late 80’s and early 90’s. He enjoyed many years of boating and salmon fishing as well as lapidary work in his leisure time. Over the years he had many friends who appreciated the man of few words but a kind heart. A private family service will take place at a later date. His final resting place will be the Veteran’s Cemetery “God’s Acre” in Esquimalt. Many thanks to Dave and Glenda Mosher, VIHA nursing and home care workers and to People at Home staff for making his last days as comfortable as possible.
