CORFIELD, Robert

August 30, 1923,  - July 11, 2010

Robert passed away peacefully in his home with his loving sisters at his side.  Also in attendance were his dedicated and compassionate care givers.   He was predeceased by his parents Treff Corfield (1984) and Rachel Corfield (1977).  He is survived by his sisters Sheelagh Vessey and Bunty McIver, also his brother George (Val) Corfield, plus nieces and nephews.

Robert was born and raised in the Courtenay - Comox area, and attended school in Courtenay, Vernon and Duncan.  He was a veteran of World War Two, a proud member of the Lord Strathcona Horse Regiment, serving in the Italian Campaign.  After the war Robert worked for "Corfield Motors" and continued as a mechanic for the rest of his working life.  He was the real Mr Fix-It who loved the challenge of fixing things, and was so good at it some of his family thought he could even fix a rainy day.   Robert enjoyed traveling, fishing, curling and golf.  He felt a duty to his community, serving in a variety of ways, and will be remembered for his loyalty to family and friends, as well as his gentle and giving nature.   We are extremely grateful to all the care givers who gave Robert such exceptional care and attention which made it possible to fulfil his wish to stay in his own home - Hilda, Ina, Ursula, Jo-Ann, Ronnie and Cara.  The VIHA staff that visited Robert were also very helpful.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Robert's Astra Bay home on Saturday July 24, 2010 between 2 pm and 5 pm.  Please join us for some refreshments, tears and laughter.   In lieu of flowers donations would be gratefully received by the Alzheimer's Society.
