De Armond

Rupert Lester (Bert)

Rupert Lester (Bert), our dearly loved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away quietly on the evening of October 4th, 2003. He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, June 23rd, 1921. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Myrtle; his children: Pamela (Noel) Reddy and family, Patrick (Jodie) and Kevin, Jon (Cathy) and family, Jeffrey and Stacey, Louise (Brent) Joyce and family, Suzie and Danny. Bert is also survived by his brothers: Dee (Mary) and Keith; as well as his sister Ellen Cuppen. He was predeceased by his parents Ethel and Lester De Armond. While serving with the R.C.M.P. he was stationed in Ontario and Alberta. In his career of recreation management, he supervised the building and operation of both corporate and community facilities. He was highly active in the expansion of corporate recreational development in the growing community of Fort McMurray. Bert retired to Cranbrook and then to Courtenay. Active in the community, he was a member of St. George’s United Church, the Courtenay Kiwanis Club, the R.C.M.P. Vets, Evergreen Seniors, the Driftwood Mall Walking Club and the Celtic Club. He had a great love for his family and was the centre of laughter, with his dry sense of humour and wry comments. He will be missed. A Service of Remembrance in Celebration of Bert’s Life will be held on Sunday, October 12th at 2:00 p.m. from St. George’s United Church under the direction of COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 1101 RYAN ROAD. Mr. Gordon Young and The Reverend D’Arcy Lade will officiate and fellowship and refreshments will follow in the church hall. Should friends wish, donations in his memory to the C.N.I.B., P.O. Box 3349, Stn. Terminal, Vancouver, B.C. V6B 9Z9, would be appreciated.
