Russ Hammond passed away on October 22, 2006 in Comox, B.C. He was predeceased by his brothers Bruce and Will, his parents and his son John. Russ is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Flo; his daughters: Diana (Peter) Dobbs of Courtenay and Barbara (Gilles) Guilbault of Ottawa; his grandchildren: Karen, Bryan, Christopher (Megan), Richard, Shawn, Marc-Andre, and Sylvie; as well as his great-granddaughter Amanda. He served for 27 years as an air traffic controller and administrator in the R.C.A.F. Russ has been involved in community service for over 25 years – with seniors in particular but also with the Air Cadets, Arthritis Society and the Kiwanis Club. Russ was very involved with Glacier View Lodge and Marsland House as well as setting up peer counselling for the Valley. He was also a marriage commissioner for 17 years. Russ’ hobby was volunteering and even though he was in a wheelchair for the past year he still continued to volunteer for everything he could. A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. from Courtenay Fellowship Baptist Church, 2963 Lake Trail Road, Courtenay with Pastor Peter Rabey officiating. Donations in Russ' memory made to The Arthritis Society, B.C. & Yukon Division, 895 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. would be appreciated.
