Russell Morton Hebert

March 4, 2003

Hebert, Russell Morton

Born October 20, 1933 - Died March 4, 2003

Russ was born in Vancouver, BC, and after a time working in the merchant marine and logging, he came to the Comox Valley to operate Island Radiators in 1955. He married that year and he and his wife, Enid, raised 2 sons, Marty and Cal. Russ bought Island Radiators in 1964 and expanded it to manufacture industrial/marine batteries. Russ was a perfectionist in his work and his products were sought on the whole north island and inland coast. He sold the business in 1974 and left for a short period to help open a business in Whitehorse, Yukon. He returned to Comox to begin Russ’ Battery and Lead Products - manufacturing batteries & weights, etc. for commercial/sport fishers & divers. Russ suffered a stroke in 1986 and since then was resident at Rosewood Manor in Richmond, BC, needing 24-hour care. He passed away following another stroke. While healthy, Russ loved taking his family camping and fishing on the Island lakes and ocean. He was predeceased by his mother and father but was loved, respected and survived by his sons, Martin (Tracey), Cal (Patty), 7 grandchildren, his sister, Valerie, and former wife and companion, Enid.

A Memorial Service in celebration of his life was held March 8th, 2003 at Courtenay Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall.
