Shirley Bernice Sharpe

January 6, 1948 - September 23, 2017

Shirley passed away with dignity and grace at home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Shirley was a wife, mother, aunt, sister, sister and daughter-in-law, daughter, friend, neighbour and fellow worker.

Shirley excelled at being each and every one of them. She enjoyed people and always put other's well being before her own.

Shirley has lived in numerous places throughout Canada. In her younger years she enjoyed hiking, camping, canoeing and curling.

She was also a member of various church choirs on military bases. In the past number of years she took up walking, with her usual passion. Jim and Shirley's motto became "No Excuses" hence the walking twice a day regardless of the weather.

Shirley was predeceased by her father Thomas Pritchard 05 August 1951 and her mother Francis 30 October 1994, brother Thomas 22 May 1987, and her niece Rosemary Duffenais (nee Whelan) 12 May 2002.

Shirley leaves to mourn Jim, her husband of 45 years, her sons Don - wife Shafina, and Jim - wife Donna Holesworth, both living in Calgary and sisters Elizabeth "Betty" Whelan - husband Len, Alice Pritchard and her uncle Bill as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley was proud of her Newfoundland heritage and by being the person she was, she was certain she did Newfoundland proud where ever she went.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held at Comox Valley Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 at 1:30pm, followed by a reception in the "Garden Room and Outdoor Patio" of the funeral home.

Donations would be gratefully appreciated to the BC Pancreatic Society, SPCA or YANA in Shirley's name.

The family wishes to thank the community of Harbourview for their outstanding support and Shirley's primary caregivers, Dr. Kirsten Emmott and Dr. Shane Minor, BC Cancer Agency, Dr. John Paul McGhie, VI Hospice, Dr. Susan Hunter and all home nursing staff of VIHA, as well as Home Care Respite and the Hospice Support Team.
