Stanley John Robinson
1926 - October 8, 2017
Stan passed away at Glengarry Home in Victoria, BC. on Oct. 8. Born on the farm near Wapella, Sask. on July 6, 1926, he came west with family in 1947 and settled for a time in Haney, BC. (Maple Ridge). He joined the RCAF in 1952 and made the air force his career. During that time he had two postings overseas, to Europe and London, England. Near the end of his first tour of duty in France he met and married the love of his life, Paddy Poyntz-Bull of Oxford.
As newlyweds they returned to Canada in 1957. Stan's final posting before retirement was to the Armed Forces base at Comox where he served as sergeant with the Search and Rescue Squadron. Following retirement from the RCAF, he was employed in the insurance business until 1991.
Stan & Paddy travelled extensively until her death from cancer in 1993. Maintaining his home in Comox, Stan continued to travel. He spent extended times in Africa as a representative of Rotary International. When he wasn't travelling, Stan was a tireless volunteer. Besides Rotary, he was active in several organizations such as the Early Childhood Development Centre in the Comox Valley.
Ever the family man, he participated in his children's activities such as hockey and fastball, and coached senior men's fastball in later years. If there was a friend or neighbour in need he was right there to help.
Stan left Comox in 2011 to live with his son in Victoria. Due to failing health he eventually went to live in Glengarry Hospital where he received the best of care. Predeceased by wife Paddy and sister Mabel, he leaves his son Terry and daughter Joanne, both of Victoria; three granddaughters, Angelique, Casey and Tia, sister Doris (John) Riedweg of Langley, BC, and several nieces and nephews in Alberta.
Our heartfelt thanks to Fong Ing Wang and Mary Sapong for their loving care of Dad during the past few years, and to the staff of Glengarry Hospital.
There will be a family service in Courtney, BC. to inter his ashes beside those of his beloved Paddy.
