ROGERS, Thomas Edward

June 15, 1925 ~ February 17, 2010


Tom passed away February 17, 2010 at the age of 84. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.


He is survived by his loving wife Joy of 58 years, his daughters Kathy Geertsema of Grande Cache,Alberta, Diane Hunter (Rod) of Cranbrook, B.C., and his son Gary (Laura) of Richmond, B.C., also his 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; Jody Benteau (Blair) & Jakob, Kelly Geertsema, Matt Hunter (Steph), Mason & Mckenna, Melissa Kenny (Conrad), Mark Hunter and Derek Rogers.


He was predeceased by his mother and father, Alfred & Rhoda Rogers, brother Tim, sister Marguerite of Brandon, Manitoba.


Tom served in the Navy 1943-46 in the Atlantic and later moved to the West Coast where he worked for Comox Logging and Crown Zellerbach as a scaler and accountant in Ladysmith. He later worked in Nitinat Camp by Lake Cowichan as an accountant and office manager. He then moved to Courtenay in 1980 and worked at Elk Falls until his retirement in 1985. He has lived in the Comox Valley for thirty years and belonged to the Legion and Masonic Lodge.


He was a great guy and a fantastic husband, father, grandfather and friend.


A Service of Remembrance and Celebration of Tom's life took place on Monday, February 22nd at the Royal Canadian Legion, 367 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay at 2 o'clock.


In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to St. Joseph's General Hospital Foundation, 2137 Comox Avenue, Comox, B.C. V9M 1P3.


The family would like to express sincere appreciation and thanks to his doctors and the many nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox for the loving care and comfort given him during his final days.
