Tom R. A.

March 25, 1932 - June 29, 2009

Passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, B.C. after a strong battle against cancer. He was predeceased by a great grandchild, Sophie. Tom is survived by his son Tom (Kathy) Slater of Courtenay, his daughter Susan Slater (Rod Pearson) of Courtenay, his grandchildren; John (Lucy), Tricia (Shane), Lisa (Rick), Craig (Shannon) and Jessica, great grandchildren; Paige and Lucas, Jackson and Sonny and Kyan, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be missed by his coffee group at the mall, tea time buddies in Cumberland and friend and constant companion “Patches.” Tom farmed all his life and served as a volunteer fireman in Richmond. In his leisure time, Tom was a scout leader and a baseball and lacrosse coach. He had a strong work ethic and was a supportive and loving father, grandfather and friend. Tom loved being outside and working on the farm, up until 2 weeks before his death when he finished seeding 8 acres in oats. A special Thanks to Robin, Archie and Red for getting the hay field in on time. If friends so wish, donations in Tom’s memory made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Hospice Society, the S.P.C.A. or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Thanks to the staff at Valley Care Medical, nurses and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Dr. Tancon for their kind and considerate care through Dad’s cancer battle. A gathering of friends and family will be at the Fallen Alders Hall in Royston on July 19, 2009 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
