A pioneer of Lynn Valley has passed away in her 99th year. Vera Elizabeth (Fromme) Gill peacefully left this earth on July 7th, 2006. Born to Martha and Julius Fromme in 1907, Vera lived most of her life in North Vancouver, moving to Courtenay fourteen years ago. She married Cecil Gill in 1929 and until his death in 1974 she was his loving companion and supporter. She will be missed by her daughters: Beverley (Alan) Edwards and Lois Cutler; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Alan Campbell & wife Petra (Travis & Brittney), Leslie Thomas & husband Graham (Jennifer, Tara (Devin) & Jordan), Grant Campbell and Laura Cutler-Matheson & husband Jamie; “little Dougie” Stewart; numerous nieces and nephews; and her only surviving sibling, Julia Myles. Also, by marriage, grandchildren Lynda Mason and Gerry Edwards and families. Brother Harold Fromme and sister, Margaret Maxwell predeceased her. Vera was a constant supporter of her community and held lifetime memberships with the Theosophical Society and The United Church Women. In recent years, the CNIB Services have enriched her life. A Celebration of Vera’s life will be held on Thursday, July 13th, 2006 at St. George’s United Church, 6th Street and Fitzgerald Ave, Courtenay, BC at 2pm. Officiating, The Rev. Ray Brandon and Lawrence Burns assisting. With great appreciation, the family wishes that any expression of sympathy take the form of donations to St. George’s United Church Audio System fund or the CNIB Audio Books service.
