1916 - 2002

Born 19 October 1916 in Poplarfield, Manitoba, he passed away 29th August 2002 at St. Joseph’s Extended Care, Comox, BC. Wilf was the 9th child born to Polish immigrants Nicholas and Josephine Hetman. Predeceased by his loving wife, Ina in 1975, he will be sadly missed by his children: Ian (Isabelle) Hetman of Masset, Queen Charlotte Islands, Colin (Allison) Hetman of Courtenay, and Marion (Bob) Fielding of Richmond, BC.

Wilf was blessed with 7 granddaughters and 1 grandson: Tracy (Doug) Macdonald, Edmonton, Pat (Bryan) Milner, Kingston, ON, Denise Hetman, Chase, BC, Kelly (Nick) Aktarian, Sidney, BC, Heather (Athol Wilson) Fielding and Matthew (Ana) Fielding of Richmond, BC. Great grandchildren include: Caileh and Chayton of Edmonton, Shawna, Courtney and Dayna of Ontario, Nickell and Ashlene of Sidney. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilf was predeceased by 7 brothers and sisters, and will be truly missed by his sister Sophie Byra of Fort St. John.

Wilf joined the R.C.A.F. in 1939 serving with the Marine Section. In 1965 he retired after 26 years service and moved his family back to Sidney, BC. He was one of the original Charter Members of the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans, Sidney Branch and was presented with a 50 year certificate in 1999. He was also Grand Chancellor 1988-89 of the Pythias Victory Lodge 63, Sidney.

A Family Memorial will be held at a later date, followed by Interment at Royal Oak Burial Park. Donation if desired may be sent to the Parkinson’s Society or the Alzheimers Society. PIERCY’S FUNERAL HOME of Courtenay, BC have been entrusted with arrangements.
